Project 03.Txirrio

Date: March 2021

Artists: Marina and Patricia

Location: Bolivia St, Txagorritxu

We embark once again on an adventure with Pompa 945 to transform the park of the Txagorritxu neighbourhood in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

COVID forced us to adapt our methodology to one of reduced contact, so we created an online survey to learn more about the history of the area and we sent it to several entities in the neighbourhood such as the senior citizens' centre. We also involved the Luis Dorao and San Viator schools in the design process, through drawings sent to us by students.

The most repeated story in the survey was that of the river Txirrio, which flowed where the park is today. The neighbours told us that the river played a very important role, as it was the place where the children played, people washed their clothes and even went fishing. This river now runs underneath the park and we saw the opportunity to bring it back to the surface. Our artist Marina worked with local artist Patricia to bring the idea to life and thus the design for project Txirrio was born.

With the help of the students from local schools, the members of the senior citizens' center as well as volunteers from tehe neighbourhood we completed the intervention in 19 days.

Take a look at the final result!
